FOODS OF TURKEY
Turkish cuisine has some distinctive flavors and ingredients hard to find anywhere else. However, for those of us not so lucky to get these ingredients in Turkey, we still have good alternatives. Penzey’s Spices offers one of the most extensive spice collection I have come across, including Turkish oregano, cumin, paprika or sumac, quite different in taste from the versions you would get in the United States or Europe. Penzey’s has several stores in the United States, and if you are in New York, there is one in the Grand Central Train Station in Manhattan. For a complete listing and locations, you can check out their website and if you like, also order spices online directly through the store’s web site. If you are a cook who likes to experiment with international cuisines, which I assume you are as you’re reading this piece, the store will impress you with its impressive variety of exotic spices.
For more information on Penzey’s, check out their website.

Spice bazaars in Ankara close to the Ankara castle are very popular with the locals because of an impressive collection of spices in various competing open stores and displays. Busy bazaar called Samanpazarı with cooper goods, baskets and carpets nearby along with renovated historic houses are also quite a delight for the tourists visiting the area.
