FOODS OF TURKEY
Sesame seeds cover this wonderful bread, sometimes white and puffy, sometimes darker and hard. It is known as “Simit”, which means life saver. It sure is. Served for breakfast but mostly to complement Turkish tea in the afternoon, it is sold and served wherever you go in Turkey. It is truly a street food of Anatolia, with dedicated simit stands found in most city and town plazas and popular shopping districts to take the edge off when you are busy shopping or between errands or simply taking a break in the office.
